crashes after about 5 min [ Edited ]

since the last patch the game has become unplayable for me, I can go in for about 5 min before the game either freezes, starts flashing from black back to most of the game screen and continues, or most of the time crashes). I have played this game since day 1 and this has never happened until now. I have tried the repair, reinstall, I updated my drivers, I even formatted my whole computer yesterday and in the end and it still happens. has anyone been having similar problems and found a way to fix this? anything would be appreciated thank you .

Given what you have tried and the issue persists

Can you confirm the temps of the CPU and GPU Check before even playing the game and then monitor the temps immediately on pressing play and for the few minutes to see how high they are getting

just checked the heat and most go from 40-60, the GPU goes to about 70, the CPU is around 60. my video card specs say it can go up to 97  and I read that 70 or lower is normal for most games. I tried lowering my graphics and it still crashed or blacked back and forth even on the lowest settings.

You have done a reformat of the system and it persists, narrows down what is left

The fact you can get in game and play for 5 minutes before things play up strongly suggests a hardware issue.

Try dropping the nvidia driver back to 385.69 version just in case.

From here I would enable the inbuilt Intel 4000 video card on the CPU , install the intel drivers for it and connect the monitor to the motherboard.

(ie remove the Nvidia GTX670 for testing)

See if the same occurs with intel video , this at least will eliminate the video card as the issue.

I am having the same issues as you . the first time it happened it booted me back to my desktop with a black box about the size of a 1/4 of my screen and it flashed a message (update drivers).

So after checking my drivers which were already updated with in the last 2 weeks ( and had been playing with them since and everything was running fine) I reinstalled them . That didn't work so I reinstalled the game as well that didn't work . Flushed the dns files per the instructions in the help tech guide and nothing still getting kicked . I run a similar graphic card GeForce gtx 690 but I can run other games so not sure why I cant run swtor anymore . And this has only been a issue for the last 2 days or so and it has never happened before so I am at a loss here as well .

Dxdiag per this link are always handy 

I certainly do recommend using DDU (Link) to remove any trace of drivers and starting with using 385.69 driver version.

Most issues of the latest driver 388 versions are continued in the nvidia thread at this link

I find that Issues that may sound similar can be from widely different causes

I removed my video card and was going to put another in but it couldn't insert a hd monitor so I put the 670 back in and that seems to have fixed the problem im not seeing flashes or anything in swtor anymore, im not going to say that this is over and fixed, I will give it another couple of days before that. but thanks

Thanks for the help it seems reverting back to the older version of the drivers seemed to do the trick .. 

Odd that i took about a month for the game to decide that it didnt care for the new drivers that were updated oct 26th.

But they still were not the newest version , but when the game kicked me and flashed ( update drivers) you naturally think, forward not back .
