I experienced a similar issue, but instead of getting any item at all, the servers booted me from ultimate team after I had finished the 4th game. The whistle had blown, I had won, the game was processing, and the server freaked out. My internet was completely fine, as I was using it on other devices. But ultimate team was giving me error messages that said fifa ultimate team was experiencing a high volume of requests, and therefore was unable to process. it took about 5 minutes to get back in, and it had disqualified me... I should have absolutely won the Negredo card! Insanely frustrating, like a nightmare. Horrible bug.
