Troubleshoot a black startup screen in Star Wars™ Battlefront™

Try these steps to workaround a static black screen when starting up Star Wars Battlefront.

A number of issues cause a black startup screen

Check all of these factors and solutions to get in the game. If you still see a black screen when starting up Star Wars Battlefront, talk to us on Answers HQ to help us investigate this issue.

Make sure your PC meets minimum requirements

If you're playing on PC, make sure your system can run Star Wars Battlefront. As long as your computer meets the minimum requirements, it can run the game on modest settings. Computers that meet or exceed recommended specifications will give you the best gameplay experience.

  • Star Wars Battlefront is featured on System Requirements Lab's Can You RUN It? pageFollow the link to let System Requirements Lab automatically check your computer specs.
EA does not own or operate System Requirements Lab's Can You RUN It page and any use of it will be done at your own risk, nor will we able to affect any changes to their page or system.

Keep your graphics card and system drivers up-to-date

If you use a laptop, force your graphics card to take precedence over your onboard graphics chip.

  • Laptops often try to use the weaker, onboard graphics chip for processing even if there's a stronger graphics card installed.
  • Set up a graphics card gaming profile on your laptop for Star Wars Battlefront to force your graphics card to run the game.

Run the current version of Origin

Double-check that you've enabled Origin automatic updates.

  • Go to Application Settings in the Origin menu and in the General tab under Updates, check Automatically keep Origin up to date.
  • Exit and restart Origin to begin any uninstalled updates.

If you have a problem upgrading to the latest version of Origin, download and install the newest version from origin.com/download by clicking Download Origin for PC. If you've recently upgraded your operating system, uninstall and then reinstall Origin before running the game.

Disable SLI or Crossfire if you're running multiple graphics cards

Disable NVIDIA SLI

Right-click anywhere on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. Open the 3D Settings section and click Set SLI Configuration. Select Do Not Use SLI Technology, and then click Apply to save your changes.

Disable AMD Crossfire

Right-click anywhere on your desktop and select Catalyst Control Center. Open the Graphics menu, then click CrossfireX. Uncheck Enable Crossfire, and then click OK to save your changes.

On Windows 7, make sure you've updated your system with Service Pack 1

Check if Service Pack 1 is installed on your Windows 7 PC by opening the Start menu, right-clicking Computer, then selecting Properties.

  • If Service Pack 1 is listed under Windows edition, you've already installed Service Pack 1 on your computer.
  • If Service Pack 1 is not listed under Windows edition on your PC, install Service Pack 1 by following these instructions from Microsoft.
