Proposal Disappears

I had my sim propose to another sim and then I closed out the app after it had finished. When I opened it later, the fiance status was gone. I proposed again, and this time I had them get married right away, but it says they are neither married or engaged. It takes a lot for them to get engaged, so this is kind of annoying. Is there any way to fix this?
