PC-Game Freezes while loading match

[ Edited ]
★★ Novice

Ok so I updated my Radeon R9 390 to the latest drivers in order to play Battlefront 2. Today I decided to play some BF today and the game loads fine but when it finds a match and begins to load the match the game along with my system freezes. I was able to play no problem prior to updating my graphics card, I rolled the driver back and the game still freezes when loading a match. I also tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it as well as rolling back the graphics card to when I bought it two years ago, still same problem. I also did a hard system wipe and install still nothing. Ive included my DxDiag information. I received no system messages or blue screen messages.

Quick Run Down of System:

OS: Windows 7 64 with SP1

CPU: AMD FX-8350 (8-core at 4.0ghz)

RAM: 8GB

@chill1184 Hi please make sure all this is done for settings and updated on your PC.....

Disable Origin in game:
In Origin - Application settings - Origin in Game - disable Origin in game

Origin Cloud Storage turn it off
Origin, settings, General

Latest version of DirectX see this page
http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35

Reinstall Microsoft C++ For my game PC's I install both x64 and x86 as it does not hurt the PC

NOTE>>> you need to select the x64 or the x86 file depending on what architecture your computer has. To find this out, Click Start, right click on "Computer" and select "Properties". Under system type is should say "32-Bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System". If 32-bit operating system, download the x86 file, and if 64-bit download the x64 file.

Update your Microsoft .NET framework.

Adobe Flash Player update
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Reboot PC test BF1

If you still crash see information below/ cant load game ....

Try a clean boot : run a Clean Boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/929135 >This should ensure that no programs are interfering in the background.

If all this fails to fix it then try this...

C:\Users\your PC Name\Documents\Battlefield 1

BF1 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF1 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF1 it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues. Even if its not a new install it is still worth trying as the game cfg could be mucked up.

1- Go to my Documents and remove BF1 folder place it on your Desktop for now.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
3-Repair BF1
4- When done go test your game. If it fails reboot your PC and run repair game again and test BF1.

@2042isNotBFUnfortunately this all failed and gave me the same problem with no error messages or blue screens. Just a straight freeze and me requiring to power off (via power button) my system and restart. I ordered some more RAM (which I had been meaning to do anyway) maybe the latest update increased the RAM usage of the game for all we know.

@chill1184 See if this will fix the blue screen issue and fingers crossed its not a PC part getting ready to die ....

Test your windows for errors as a clean windows install does not always make a stable windows.

NOTE: Running SFC does not guarantee the crash will not happen, but it will ensure it is not because a windows Dll or file is corrupted in windows.

This works in all windows O/S vista Win7, Win8 , Win8.1 and win 10 windows system file checker :] Copy and past this to note pad and put it on your desktop. As open programs can give you errors when you run this.

sfc /scannow, ever hear of it if not your going to love this, it will inspect all the important windows files as well as the windows DLL files. If windows system file checker finds any issues with the windows files and windows DLL files it will replace them / try to fix them. This little tool as well as the event viewer on a PC saved me and fully helped me fix my BF4 issues as well as saved me many a format since I found it. This is the best toy they ever put in windows :womanvery-happy:

-For win7 go to start/ bottom left screen / windows globe .. Right click in search type cmd and right click cmd pick run as administrator.
-For win 8.1 right mouse click start bottom left of screen / windows box and pick command prompt administrator.

1-Open administrator command prompt and close web pages and programs like Origin, Steam etc.

2-Type or copy and paste in sfc /scannow and hit enter, This takes 5 min to 15 min SSD vs HD

3-This can go one of a few ways ..... no errors ... it fixed some errors ..... could not fix all errors...... does not finish checking and errors out ....... and the last one could not fix errors at all :/

4-After its done REBOOT PC and Run sfc /scannow again even if you had no errors the first time or had errors, could not fix run sfc /scannow again and when its done a second time reboot. You need to do this a and get no errors 2 x in a row ...

5-So if you ran it 2x and no errors your safe you can stop. If you had errors first time but not the second then run sfc /scannow again and when its done reboot. You need to get could not find any errors 2 x to be safe. If it still finds errors try and run it a few more times until it finds no errors 2x AND ALWAYS REBOOT BETWEEN RUNNING sfc /scannow

6-If you get a message indicating that it can not be repaired and you ran sfc /scannow more then 3x in a row on win vista or 7 mm you need a format or try repair win 7 :/ But after format or repair and all updates are done run sfc /scannow to make sure your windows is stable same deal 2x error free reboot between them.

NOTE-If your O/S is Win8 or Win 8,1 or win10 then you can run the next few command lines in administrator command prompt. Sadly this does not work for win vista or 7 :/ Note: After you run each command line Reboot PC.

This next part of windows scans is only for windows 8 & windows 8.1 and win 10

Reboot PC after you run each command line and close programs and web pages.

And same deal as above run command prompt administrator.

1-This command line will scan the health of your PC:
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

2-This command line will restore the health of your PC and you don't lose anything on your PC :
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Note: If you get errors with the two command lines above and it cant be fixed with second command line and if you are on windows 8.1. Then use third command line but be warned it could take up to two hrs to fix your PC but it will save you a format. I had a friend test this on a PC with errors when it could not be fixed with second command line. :womanvery-happy:

This next part of windows scans is only for windows 8.1 and win 10

And same deal as above run command prompt administrator.

1-If restore heath gave you errors then you can always try this command line:

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

2-If you get Error 0x800F081F with the restore health scan then run this command line. After you reboot your PC then run third command line to be sure your windows is fully stable.

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

@2042isNotBFSystem File Checker verifies that my Windows install is clean, so what now? This problem is so weird given the freeze is only happening on games such as BF1, GTA 5, Mafia 3 and Battlefront 2 but none of my older games; TF2, CS:Go have this issue with freezing. Any other insight you could give me?

@chill1184 As you could play BF1 before the video card driver update I would do a clean install of your old video card driver as they could have put out a semi bad driver. Or look to see if they now have a newer driver than the one you installed. I know this is not much help and for this I am sorry but it could be all due to a bad video card driver and nothing can be done until they make a new driver for your card. If your PC meets the recommended requirements for all the games you listed to give you issues then I would try a clean boot as well to be sure no program on your PC is helping to make the issue ... see below how to do this

The games to give you issues are high demanding games on PC parts and if your PC just meets the requirements the games will be hard to play for your PC sadly.  For example for BF1 ...

Recommended Requirements this will play well anything lower in PC specs will make issues :/

OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor (AMD): AMD FX 8350 Wraith
Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 4790 or equivalent
Memory: 16GB RAM
Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ RX 480 4GB
Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1060 3GB
DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
Hard-drive space: 50GB

Try a clean boot : run a Clean Boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/929135 >This should ensure that no programs are interfering in the background.

@2042isNotBFWould you say that its possible that my graphics card is dying? Given that it can handle low end games no problem but with more graphic heavy ones it freezes?

Part of the issue is that your RAM is at the minimum needed to run newer games like BF1 and your CPU and GPU while above the minimum are on the lower end of the spectrum which may cause performance issues when run at higher settings. What settings are you running your game on? My bet is that your GPU is just getting outdated instead of dying or you'd have issues on old games as well.

@chill1184 I agree with @ragnarok013 if the card / part was dying it would effect all games. Try this for settings in BF1 once your in the load out. I play with video settings all the time as I am a Frams per second crazy person. You fully need more ram in your PC for BF1 as recommended is 16GB and you have 8GB but for now try this for in game settings in the loadout before you try and go into a game..  I don't know AMD cards at all but look in catalyst control center on your desktop and see if it has some type of setting to set the PC video card to to  performance if it does set the PC video card to performance.

In catalyst control center look under gaming tab and performance etc anything to set it to performance over eye candy. As eye candy is useless when it comes to PC performance lol.

In game video settings Advanced right side set to custom and set everything to low for testing but turn off ....

1-antialiasing post off
2-ambient occlusion off

Also make sure GPU memory restriction is OFF

EDIT>>>> Will the game load out even load for you ?

See if this will help get you into game :]

@2042isNotBFYeah tried that and still the same thing, I upgraded my RAM to 8GB and I'm going to buy a more updated graphics card after Christmas and see if that helps. Will update on results
