Origin Update Today Causing Event ID 1000 and Freezes PC

Origin did an update today on my Windows 10 pc from version 10.4.17.36908 to version 10.5.2.49155. After the update when I try to run Origin the app crashes and freezes my pc. I then have to reboot. In event viewer it shows the following.

Event ID: 1000

Faulting application name: Origin.exe, version: 10.5.2.49155, time stamp: 0x599e21da
Faulting module name: ucrtbase.dll, version: 10.0.15063.447, time stamp: 0xa96ab320
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x000a53fb
Faulting process id: 0x2170
Faulting application start time: 0x01d321c4147fb37d
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\Origin.exe
Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\ucrtbase.dll
Report Id: 23993fe3-bdf1-4d33-adee-b3c575ffbcf4
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

The version of ucrtbase.dll in the system32 folder is 10.0.15063.413

Anyone else getting this?

@Straatford87

I've found a temporary solution, this issue seems to be related to the HiDPI.

I'm using a 4k monitor with Windows 10 Creators Update so I set the display scaling to 200%. Origin will crash under this setting.

But after I set the origin's high DPI override to System, it could start normally again. Unfortunately, Origin's UI elements and texts look blurry with this workaround.

Please try this solution and see if it works.

Hi @LPS-DirtPiler

.Ensure that your Firewall and/or Antivirus are not blocking the connection. The easiest way would be adding an exception for the Origin Client and your game to the exclusion list.Add firewall/antivirus exceptions for Origin and open the needed ports http://help.ea.com/en/article/connection-issues-with-origin/#1

.Add antivirus exclusions(exceptions) specific files Origin, folders Origin or file extensions origin.ex from scanning.(very important to do )

.Then perform a Clean Boot https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/FAQ/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/.

.Run the setup file Origin with Admin rights  http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-do-i-run-a-program-or-a-game-as-an-administrator/#2

NOTE if your issue persists :

Delete temp files: open the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Search field  or click in the Run option in the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Run field.Press Enter and a Temp folder should open. You can delete all files found in this folder, and if any files are in use, they can be skipped.

Clear Origin cache https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/origin-my-games-list-is-blank/

Restart your machine .

None of that worked. I see several other people on the forums are having the same issue after the Origin client update today.

Just rolled back to the last version of Origin Client and all is good. So the issue is with the new update.

I've been an IT consultant for 30 years now so when it comes to my personal pc it is always patched and updated. So that wouldn't be the case. Windows 10 is versions 15063.540 is what I'm running also.

★★★ Newbie

I'm having this problem as well. It happens on both my computers (both Win10; both intel; one ATI and one Nvidia). I don't believe the machine with the ATI card had ever had Origin installed prior to today.

I've checked for updates but Windows claims I am up to date.

Version    10.0.15063 Build 15063

So, LPS-Dirtpiler, I can say that you are at least not alone.

I can use Origin without crashes in Safe Made (with networking) but have had no luck in normal windows. I have even tried clean boots and removing a majority of the software installed on the ATI machine.

Here is a snippet from my dxdiag:

Hi again @LPS-DirtPiler , @Blastcitrix

I'm running Windows 10 Creators Edition and  i use a third party anti-virus product.

1.Maybe then for you- try to turning off Windows Defender ,restart your machine and check.

2.Manually uninstall Origin http://help.ea.com/en/article/manually-uninstalling-origin/

Run CCleaner http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-use-ccleaner-to-fix-pc-issues/

Then go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin -delete this Origin folder

Now you have to go to your recycle bin and clean so there will no longer Origin exist as a file.

Clear Origin cache https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/origin-my-games-list-is-blank/

Delete temp files open the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Search field  or click in the Run option in the Start Menu and type %temp% in the Run field.Press Enter and a Temp folder should open. You can delete all files found in this folder, and if any files are in use, they can be skipped.

Restart your machine.

Install Origin as Adminstrator  https://www.origin.com/en-ie/download

3.If your issue persists i think you need to run System file checker. Is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. You may have to run this up to 3 times to fix all the problems.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

NOTE if System File Checker is not working or will not run or could not repair, you can try to repair the Component Store and see if it helps.

To do so, run CMD as administrator. Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and hit Enter. After the task is over, restart the computer and see if it has helped.

More details how to use DISM, here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/947821/fix-windows-update-errors-by-using-the-dism-or-syste...

@yahel_1  Thanks for the suggestions, but no joy.  Uninstalled - cleaned everything out - did a registry clean/fix - checked and cleaned out %temp folder - re-downloaded and ran as an Admin.

Same problem.  I login and then as it tries to open up the Origin page it just crashes. :-(
