No longer able to play 2 players in Franchise

When I first go the game, I was able to play with a friend in franchise mode (they could either control the other team or play on the same team as me). This feature is no longer available ever since on of the recent updates. The ‘Player 2’ controller is stuck in the middle on the controller select screen

I have the same issue. I once could play the Franchise mode offline with 2 players and now the 2nd player controller icon is stuck in the center between the 2 teams at all chose sides screens. Please advise
