Madden 18 second controller will not activate in play now

Madden 18 on Xbox. The second controller will not activate on play now. Controller is good just finished playing NBA 2k15. First time trying play now with two players.

I’m having the same issue. Can’t figure out how to activate the 2nd controller. I’m unable two play two players in franchise as well. Very frustrating, especially dropping $60 on the game.

I just got the game for my son yesterday for Christmas and I can't play against him. Played Fifa without issue. Hey ea not everyone wants to play online. I have been playing madden for 20 yrs and have never had this issue

Add another one, I guess.  We got the game yesterday and managed to play one head-to-head game.  After that, the game would not recognize a 2nd controller, even though the console responds to it.
