Joined GA but im not in a group

I joined GA earlier today about 3 hours before start.  When i jumped on after the update, it says no events are ready yet my guikdmates are in a group.  I definitely hit the join button.  I contacted support and they basically said too bad.  

So im going to lose all rewards, lose ranking, etc because of something i had no control over.  Please help!
