I still can’t retire a playable sim after he was made passive

I retired two sims, brought both back and they won’t retire. The wife who I didn’t make passive has retired, plus their kids are now adults. I don’t want to remove as I won’t get the heirlooms! I am fully updated on the app and I still can’t fix this issue?
