If you are experiencing the following crash:

R5Apex: 00000000002F2DCA
EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT: 80000003

And you overclock your PC, especially over 5GHz for the i9 CPUs, you need to down clock or return to stock CPU settings. You may also need to increase your VCore voltage.

For example, 4.8GHz @ 1.28v is completely stable where as 5GHz @ any voltage is not stable.

Please see the post from @OrioStorm in this thread:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Apex-Legends-Crash-no-error-PC-apex-crash-txt/m-p/7816829...

You may not crash in any other game, but the logic in this game is encountering a CPU bug.

We need a sticky at the top of the forum.

No need for all of that, just need to set the AVX offset in the bios to 3 or -3 and that's it

@MikeyHNWY and @0cd33c2af2d58d1f, your crashes are in some thread created by some 3rd party DLL, not in Apex.

The crash logs mention "module@..." because Windows didn't tell us the name of the DLL, so unfortunately I can't help you figure out what DLL is crashing.

I did double-check that those offsets do not make a valid callstack in r5apex.exe, so I know that the mystery module is not r5apex. Unfortunately, I really can't tell anything else from the limited information in the crash log.

Some things that it could be:

  • video card drivers
  • audio drivers
  • in-game overlays
  • recording software
  • antivirus
  • Windows modules
  • ???

@MrHotBlooded, your crash is actually in your ATI driver, not Apex itself. I recommend updating your video card driver and trying again.

I'm in the process of looking over the crash logs in this post, starting at the end and working my way back. So far, all these crashes are the Intel CPU crash.

@OmniBallistix

@DJSlumo
@TheTurbopolyp

@tumor_0

@DvS-Diablo

@twitch_nootstuff
@umz24
@Tv_Faya

@solrflar

@TheCoachPotato

@ERUziON

As mentioned in another thread, these are always fixed by lowering your clock speed, even if you aren't overclocking. That is the one and only known fix. It appears to be a timing flaw in Intel hardware executing a specific instruction sequence. It isn't related to the program being too intense for the CPU, or to Apex doing anything wrong.

We are trying to change this function to not expose this crash on Intel CPUs in a future patch, but I can't promise when that change will come out.

FYI, for those of you wondering who @OrioStorm is, he's an Engineer at Respawn Entertainment:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Apex-Legends-Crash-no-error-PC-apex-crash-txt/m-p/7790765...

Please read through that thread, we've done extensive testing to show that overclocking causes most of the crashes. AVX offset might correct it for some but not others, but I believe @Falkentyne has proven that AVX isn't really used in Apex.
