Community Crashing Troubleshooting Guide

[ Edited ]
Community Manager

Hello Legends,

We're all extremely excited for how successful Apex Legends has been since launch, but we know there's some players out there experiencing crashing woes. For the past week we've been doing our best to respond to those posts and most importantly, forward technical issues and bugs to the proper teams to investigate. While you might not always see an immediate response from us under a post that doesn't mean we aren't tracking the issues being reported and reading responses to let the teams know whats happening out there. The Answers HQ (AHQ) is more than a support forum — it's a global community focused on players helpi....

So below is a compiled list of workaround solutions offered by players in the Apex Legends community that we've seen in various hot topics. We hope this helps save you some time troubleshooting so you can spend more time in the game. Keep in mind each workaround may not fix it for everyone, so part of technical troubleshooting is to go through the list to see what sticks for you. Officially EA approved PC, console, and mobile troubleshooting steps can always be found at our Support website Help.EA.com

Some things we've seen consistently while reviewing DxDiag reports submitted in posts is that players DO NOT HAVE:

Having trouble with the Anti-Cheat system?

Check out this amazing guide created by one of our very own Community Managers. It can also be found at the top of the Technical Issues page.

PC Troubleshooting

  • Cap your frame rate.
    • Go to origin->game library->right click on Apex ->Game properties->advanced->and put in Command line arguments: +fps_max 75. (You can try setting it lower too (100, 90, 80, etc.) This step has improved stability for a lot of players, but you may need to try some different settings to get it right.
  • Set Anti-Cheat priority to low in Task Manager.
    • Launch the game.
    • Open Task Manager by typing CTRL + ALT + DELETE
    • Go to Details tab>Find Easy Anti-Cheat program and right click>Set priority to low.
  • Try lowering the graphical settings within your in-game settings menu. You can try setting everything to low, and have anything optional disabled, then if you do see increased stability, you can enable things piecemeal until you find where your issue lies.
  • Disable any overclocking that you have on your CPU and GPU, even "factory" overclocks.
  • Right-click on desktop shortcut icon and run "troubleshoot compatibility" before launching.
  • In Control Panel, go to All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings, then Change Advanced Power Settings. Change the value for Turn off Hard Disk (minutes) to 0, and see if this has any impact.
  • If you have an FX-6XXX CPU, check the steps in this thread.
  • Repair the game in Origin. Within the Origin client right-click on Apex Legends and select "repair."
  • Switch from Full Screen to Windowed mode or Borderless from in the in-game settings
  • Close programs and overlays running in the background like Discord overlay, GeForce Experience Overlay, TeamSpeak, Origin in-game and FPS counter, Asus GPU Tweak II, MSI afterburner, EVGA Precision, Shadowplay, Aura for ASUS, RivaTuner OSD, RivaTuner statistics, GeForce Experience, Radeon ReLive, Voicemeeter, FRAPS, OBS studio, Razer Synapse 3, Razer Cortex, and Razer Chroma Kit.
  • There might be some type of program running in the background or installed on your PC that is causing a conflict with Origin. By performing a clean boot, you close down all unnecessary programs needed to boot up your PC. Once you boot it up launch the game immediately.
  • Turn off G-Sync (NVIDIA) or Freesync (AMD)
  • Adjust Ambient Occlusion in NVIDIA control panel (Manage 3D Settings)
  • Adjust or disable all forms of Vsync for your monitor
  • Try uninstalling GeForce Experience (NVIDIA)
  • Increase your GPU and Windows power setting to Max. Open up "NVIDIA Control Panel" -> from the NVIDIA Control Panel, select the "Manage3D settings" from the left column -> click on the Power management mode drop down box and select "Prefer Maximum Performance".
  • Reducing VRAM usage from 8GB to 6GB (streaming texture option)
  • Reinstall the game to the internal hard drive (C:\) and unplug external hard drives that aren't being used
  • Add Windows Defender Firewall exceptions: (Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Defender Firewall\Allowed Apps). Make sure to add and check both boxes for Origin's Launcher program. How programs and anti-virus programs can conflict with Origin.
  • Right-click the speaker Icon in your system tray (bottom left of Windows) then choose Sound > Playback and disable any output device not in use (don't forget to right click show all disconnected / deactivated devices).
  • If you are encountering the "illegal instruction" error message, please report the issue to Easy Anti-cheat using the form here: https://www.easy.ac/en-us/support/apexlegends/contact/tech/
  • Toggling your language may help. Right-click the game panel in Origin, choose Game Properties, then Advanced Launch Options. Change the game language ("Polish" helps some folks), save the game and update. Once this completes try swapping back to your language and check again.
  • Allow Windows to manage your PageFile size
  • Ensure that Origin, the game and your PageFile are all on the same drive.
  • Disable fullscreen optimisations
  • Allow the EasyAntiCheat Service to restart if it fails
  • Remove torrenting software from your system.
  • Change EasyAntiCheat.exe priority to low
    • Start the game>Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete)> go to Details and find EasyAntiCheat.exe>Right click to change priority to Low. (This process may need to be repeated every time you launch the game)

Xbox One

  • Perform a power cycle: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console
  • Clear the MAC Address: From the Xbox dashboard select Settings>All Settings>Network>Network Settings>Advanced Settings>Alternate MAC address>Clear, then restart your Xbox.
  • Deleted the local saved data. From My Games & Apps>Highlight Apex Legends>Press Start>Manage Game>Deleted Saved Data
  • Unplug any devices attached to the USB slot
  • Reinstall the game (if it is on an external hard drive try installing it on the internal drive)

PlayStation 4

We hope the steps above offered by other players can help get you into the game right away. If you're looking for approved solutions you can find them on the Technical Issues page by selecting the "Top Answers" tile below the search bar.

Good luck and have fun in Kings Canyon!

Still doesn’t resolve issue with Xbox one x. Update needed on your side. ASAP. Five days is long enough.

This Crash happens Error: 0x887A0006-DXGI_Error_Device_Hung ...... back to back I have tried all suggested settings still no positive results i more than exceed recommended hardware, As you can see the Error states it is a problem with the application ie. being the game having badly formed commands. So what do you recommend I do and how do you guys plan to fix this?

When are you going to fix the Phenom issue so we can play the game I have a Steam library of over 6000 games and I have never had an issue like this at all.  I would like to be able to play the game and probably thousands of other people who have a Phenom processor also.

Rofl, that ^  is quite literally a copy & paste from Easy Anti-Cheat's page, here:

https://www.easy.ac/en-us/support/apexlegends/issues/guide/

- it's so copy & pasted, in fact, that the EA CM just left the instructions for Steam and Uplay in, but didn't bother adding Origin instructions.

Almost like it wasn't even fully read before copy & pasting... Raised eyebrow

BTW: Right-click your Apex game in Origin, in your library, and select 'Repair' to perform a file verification check similar to the Steam and Uplay procedure above.

Your fix for everyone's problem is all that...  LMFAO
Seriously if you except people that are having issues, to follow through with all that.

You seriously just lost a player.

You need to fix your stuff, not us.

This very reason right here, and  a lot more reasons are why I will never play games like fortnite or the like.
