Cannot connect through Google play account

I occasionally have to rest my game, but it always asks if I want to reload my account. I'm level 52. But today it does not ask. I tried restarting and reinstalling after clearing everything out. Should I try just going through the start up and loading from Facebook? As I had that connected. I definitely don't want to loose my progress. Thank you
