The game will not recognize the playback capability of the SONY WH-1000XM4 Bluetooth headset except when plugged in with a jack using the motherboard Realtek audio.
It seems that the game wants to only see the "communication" device in Windows 10 that is responsible for mike pickup and playback, and not the Bluetooth headphone device that is used for primarily playback. The audio quality is vastly different, and the audio is almost silent in this case. The headset works properly in other games with the default Bluetooth setup. Only this game refuses to acknowledge the Bluetooth playback device.
Anyone else with a similar problem? Anyone have a fix (other than using the audio jack and Realtek device every time I want to play this game)?
Thanks for reading.

That is correct, @EA_Atic. It does not.
Even if I disable the headset playback device and all others, Squadrons does not recognize the headphone device.
The headphones work properly in Star Wars Battlefront II.
