BFV frequently crashes to dashboard (Xbox one)

[ Edited ]

Been dealing with this since I got this BFV edition Xbox a couple months ago-- on an average of once per 2hrs, the game will either stutter then crash to dashboard, or simply just crash; no errors, no other info... just craps out.

I'm crashing out of rounds that I've invested 30+ minutes in. This is a hard pill to swallow given that this is AAA title. Can you please, for the love of God, fix this broken game.

Hey @craigbxr, sorry to hear about the crashing issues with Battlefield V.

When the crashing happen do you get an error message and have you notice if its in the same place that the crash is happening?

And have you done any troubleshooting to see if there anything that is helping?

@EA_Atic

No error message.
No correlating events leading up to the crash-- happens whenever and wherever.
What troubleshooting can I do? It's a brand new xbox and a digital copy of the game....

I play on Xbox One too and when it crashes to the home screen that could be a caching issue. A simple power cycle usually does the trick and you should notice an immediate performance boost. Let us know if you're still getting the crashes after trying those steps.

Power Cycle the Console

  1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
  2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

  1. Plug the console power cable back in.
  2. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn on the Xbox One.

Thanks for your response! I will give that a try, and accept your response as the solution if it works.

However, it opens some new questions...

I have other games, physical and downloaded, and have never had this issue with any of them. Before BFV, I've never had to turn my xbox off to resolve a crashing issue:

- Is this a problem with BFV's optimization?

- Is this something that is going to be fixed, or am I going to have to fully power down my xbox every few hours to combat this?

- is this a known issue, or am I alone on this? (I didn't see any other instances when I checked prior to posting, but maybe you have seen something?)

Thanks in advance for your time!

Battlefield V crashing to dash Xbox One X

★★★ Novice

For about 3 weeks now every single time I play battlefield V on my Xbox one X it will inevitably crash to the dash board. There is nothing in particular associated with the crashing, it’s even happened when in menus. I’ve tried everything troubleshooting suggest including uninstalling the game and deleting everything on the cloud as well multiple times. The problem still persist. EA will probably just suggest a full shutdown and unplugging the power as if that hadn’t occurred to me already. This is a problem with this game and this game alone. I consistently play multiple other games and have had absolutely no problems form anything other than Battlefield V. There is a problem with this game and it needs to be fixed. From what I can tell it isn’t even being addressed. I am ready to give up on this  game which really sucks since it was a lot of fun before this started happening every single time I play.

I've personally had this happen to myself with other non-EA titles as well, so results can vary based off one's experience with the console. If you're running a lot of apps or games in the background before launching a new one, that can increase the chances of a crash since the system has to simultaneously run all those games at the same time in the background. You'll want to make sure you manually exit all games before launching a new one (not sure if that's being done or not, but it's a great tip!)

You shouldn't have to do this that often. I give my console a power cycle every month or so just to keep it fresh. It won't hurt the console at all.

Do you have the game installed on an external hard drive? If so, make sure there aren't files on both the internal and external drive. That can cause some weird performance issues.

I never run more than 1 game or app at a time. Only Battlefield is running when it crashes. It is installed on the internal hard drive. I don’t even have an external. This is a recurring issue for others as well on the Xbox one. I’ve seen multiple post about this on on this forum as well as others such as reddit. It’s frustrating that EA continues to ignore it and blame it on hardware issues. As I said before this is not a problem with any other game I play. Only battlefield and it’s tonthe point that I can’t even make it through a single match.

Have you deleted the game's saved data?

Go to My Games & Apps>Highlight BFV>Press Start>Manage Game.

Are you part of the Xbox One Preview Program at all?

I'm concerned when you say it's happening nearly every round, making the game unplayable. While it's not ideal, have you tried setting your Xbox back to factory default settings?

Yes I have deleted the games save data from both the Xbox and cloud, then uninstalled, did a full shutdown and then reinstalled. I’ve done this at least 4 times since the problem started. It had no effect whatsoever. Crashing has become more frequent over time and is to the point that it crashes every single match or even before loading in or in menus. I haven’t been able to play a full match for over a week now. So yes it is literally unplayable.

No I am not part of the preview program.

No I haven’t  reset my Xbox to factory settings. I don’t see a need to even try as Battlefield V is the only game that has had any issues and I know that this particular crashing issue with Battlefield V is a significant occurrence among other Xbox one players. This never occurred at all until 3 or 4 weeks ago and all of the sudden it is happening to not just me but a lot of other players as well. All of whom have described the issue in the exact same way with, variance in frequency. Would seem to me that some kind of bug was introduced in an update or something.
