Apex Legends unplayable with overkill rig

★★ Novice

So.. Title says it all..

Since about 2 days, or the last game update, my game will not play smoothly at all..

In fights, the FPS drops to about 4 or 5.

Reinstalled the game 3 times
Verified game files 2 times
Cleared the Origin cache about 6 times now

I have a 35" Asus PQ monitor at 100Hz, native resolution 3440x1440

My rig is as followed:
Threadripper 16-core 32 threads at 4.0GHz per core
64GB Ram at 3200Mhz
M.2 SSD 960PRO @ 3500MBS harddrives x2 (1TB total)
GTX 1080Ti OC Aorus version

Apex Legends has an average of 25FPS, EVEN in 1920 x 1080p windowed mode on LOW...
No app in the background, no browsers. Only Discord and Origin
Origin Overlay disabled
Geforce Experience overlay disabled
Windows game bar Disabled
No Vsync limitations

WIndows is up to date
NVIDIA Drivers are up to date, even rolled back to 2 earlier versions, no effect. -> Rolled back to latest version

Game settings:
Everything is on LOW, most of the items disabled except shadows
FOV Standard, even tried turning it down or up completely, No change.

NVIDIA Control panel settings:
Edited the application to point out that i'm using the GTX1080Ti
1 Pre rendered frame
Performance settings instead of quality setting
Vsync turned off

The game is UNPLAYABLE. The system has no issues what soever.
Other games run at 100FPS Straight, without a problem.

Games that run on 100FPS on ultra, no limits in settings, at 3440 x 1440
BF1
BFV
Hunt: Showdown
PUBG
A way out

Devmgmt list shows no failing hardware
Memory test turn out 100% OK (Including MEMTEST)
LatencyMON Shows no driver latency
Taskmgr shows no issues
Ingame GPU fluctuates from 60 to 85% Never higher
CPU ingame fluctuates from 20 to 40% Never higher

Is there anything else I can try? I doubt it....

Hope to hear,

Mark

Champion

Have you overclocked your GPU?

Try disabling rapid mode in samsung magician if you have it enabled.. This is not something I'm posting out of the blue because it actually fixed my problem ( i have a 840 evo).. Not sure if it will help you with your problem.. You also need to keep in mind that server load and red ping is an issue.. I still leave matches if they start out stuttering (and a new match works fine)

Hero

Does it happen if you try a proper clean boot as described in: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows ?

hey, I had the same problem as you, however I found a fix. Click the little arrow on the right of your taskbar and from the menu select NVIDIA settings. Under manage 3d settings, find the dropdown and from it select 'high performance NVIDIA processor' then at the bottom right click apply. Not sure if it will work, good luck.Standard smile

HI,

The rapid mode isn't available in the 9xx series of the M.2 drives Standard smile So it's disabled by default>

Thanks alot for the info though! :D

I will try the cleanboot as a last option.

I have changed the power setting to performance mode as suggested Standard smile

Cleanboot didn't work.
Using a DDU to remove the entire GPU drivers and reinstalling different versions - No fix.

I even stress tested the CPU, the GPU and the memory -> Great results.

What else can I try? ANyone?
