After a crash, game is unplayable (Battlefront 2)

★★ Novice

Hello everybody,

so I've been enjoying this game ever since it went free on Epic store, I managed to complete the SP campaign and even the dlc, played around 20 MP matches so far.

Unfortunately today while playing a team death match mode or what is it called, on map Geonosis my game suddenly, out of nowhere crashed. It looked like a GPU fail crash maybe? Such as a GPU driver update "resolution change". I had enough of playing anyways so I didn't play it since then.

Couple of hours passed and told myself that want to play a quick match or two, but for some reason the game is totally unplayable, it lags as hell, I would compare it to lagging and stuttering but the FPS is still high. It happens for both MP and SP. I must say that the game worked completely fine and was set at medium settings managing to get around 40-60 FPS, but now because of these lags I cannot play. I also thought it might be because of HDD, I cleaned it up a bit because it was almost full, I even defragmentated it and used a error detector that my Asus laptop has. But still nothing. I have the latest GPU drivers and windows as well.

My specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 3500U

Nvidia Mx230

8Gbs of ram (5.9 usable)

128Gb SSD

1000Gb HDD

Any idea what it might be? Can I find any crash log in the game folder to check what it was?

I'd be grateful for any help or advice.

Have a nice day.

Okay, so managed to fix my issue.

My predictions were correct and there was an issue with the HDD after all.

How did I fix it?

Well, I had "paging file" set to the HDD, luckily I have a SSD with OS on it, so on a recommendation I changed it from HDD to SSD and now the game works fine as before.

So I managed to debug some info out of the crash log file.

Re: After a crash, game is unplayable (Battlefront 2)

After further research, I came to a conclusion, that it is caused by HDD. For some unknown reason, the crash affected the HDD in some way.

Why do I think it is an issue induced by HDD?

Well, I cannot deny that the game took some time to load itself, load maps, quit the match, but now it all takes way too long.

It takes almost 5 minutes to start, initial videos have trouble playing properly, basically they stutter, main menu also struggles to load properly, icons in settings show up unloaded, when I start a match, after long load time it finally loads, but still, in character selection it stutters, when I hit "play as" it struggles as well and in game, it just lags, the game seems like it it is in "slowmotion" mode or something. For ex. the character freezes, but I can still move the camera and in case you are wondering, yes it happens for both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Overall, it's very strange, the game was running smoothly like a piece of cake, but since the crash the game is unplayable. So pity.... Although I am still full of hope, so I'm doing my best to find a fix to my problem...

Not sure, if someone is going to respond, but I'd appreciate any tips regarding this issue.
