Active Sims unable to interact with Retired Sims

I cannot interact with my retired Sims, previously I could retire the Sim and still have family events initiated by other family members, now I can't even select the retired Sim to initiate anything from an active Sim, my retired Sim just sits and cries a lot - has there been an update where mentoring of even family events aren't available to retired Sims anymore? Thank you.

This sounds like a bug. Could you open a new post in the bug forum for this?
