No, that has been a viable workaround solution working for a lot of players while the Apex Legends team is still investigating this.

Was this ever fixed?

This is still under investigation by the team and they are committed to making stability improvements going into Season 2.

Just checking back in because of Season 2

I don't see any mention of it in the patch notes, sadly. Ah well, maybe season 3...

I am also currently looking to see if this was fixed. My brother is using my old FX-6300 and he crashes almost every second game if we can even get a game going.
If this is not fixed I have asked him to try the switch of 2 cores method, but I may just give up Apex until its fixed. Its ridiculous how they just don't say anything to anyone , but when it comes to the intel users and their Core I series 7000/8000/9000 issue, they jump at helping them even as far as getting a dev into the forums to diagnose issues directly for them.
If I had to guess, probably because the intel users have more $$$ to throw at them via micro transactions than someone using a 9 year old CPU, but that's just my 2 cents.
