50-70% Packet Loss On The New Router.

★★★★ Novice

Hello. I have this modem router for about a month and for about a week now i have issues with about 45-70% packet loss on my games. My router is TD-W8961N from TP LINK.

My router stats are:

  DOWNSTREAMUPSTREAM
SNR MarginSNR Margin
:
9.511.5db
Line Attenuation
:
11.45.9db
Data Rate
:
80051011kbps
Max Rate
:
89881020kbps
POWER
:
21.28.6dbm
CRC

I have seen the packetloss more on Apex Legends game. I dont see any packet loss with my old modem from another isp i had in the past (0% packetloss) but +20ping on my games.

Things i talked and did on router so far by my own and with my isp:

  • Swap the connection with my ISP from Interleaved to Fastpath (Interleaved ping on europe servers ~80-95, ping with fastpath ~63-77)
  • Add port numbers for the game on port forward.
  • Update to the latest firmware for this modem-router
  • Tried to change the connection type from ADSL2+ to anything else but couldnt get internet work

Screenshots of my settings so far:

I cant understand whats the problem. Isp send a technician on my home today and couldnt find why my router's have this amount of packet loss.

That answer is simple if the only change was the hardware.

That router is not rated that highly online and people have been having similar issues.
Get a new router, explain to your ISP to get a different router from them or if they dont have another one just buy one that is better.

For about a month, everything was working perfectly. Why should be now a problem?

@invslex "I dont see any packet loss with my old modem from another isp i had in the past (0% packetloss)"
This is why it could be a problem.
But you can try to do the following:
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/connection-troubleshooting-basic/

And try to flush your dns by:
Open CMD (Admin) and type: “ipconfig /flushdns” (without the quotes).
Press enter.

@EzyHawkHey, ty for the answer. Both routers running on the same ISP. Both routers have the same "ISP Settings" on the setup, i hard reset the TP Link like 5 times and test it with the "ISP Settings" that they gave me, its been a week that start those massive packet loss. I dont have clue what else i can do about it. Tried to flashdns many times in the past aswell.

I do not know the longevity of this router, it may have over heated at some point causing reduced performance like other people have had.

and why would their be a problem now IF no settings have been changed on the router?
