the sims 4 - can't change username? [ Edited ]

i've had this current username for a few years now and was wondering how to change it. I looked it up, went to the correct username-editing page but when I went to click *edit* and went to click *username* it send a verification code was sent to my phone.  i completely understand on why they would do this, so no one would hack into your account.  but, i am the original owner.  i used to have this phone number but we stopped paying the bill for it since i now have an iPod.  i can not change the username and was wondering if anyone could help me change it a different way?
