the sims 3 generations expansion pack

My daughter downloaded the sims 3 generations expansion pack in origin and is saying this game requires the sims 3 installed??? Does this means she needs to buy another game to be able to play this one? If so what game does she needs?

@liavt04 yes, the Sims 3 Generations requires the Sims 3 base game to run. 

It appears currently (I am waiting for confirmation on this as I'm not sure) that you can only buy the Sims Starter Pack which is more than the base game - but if I recall correctly, was priced the same.
