sims 4 marriage

Okay so I want my kid to get married and live with his wife outside of my house but whenever I try to split the household I end up playing as my kid and his family and i do not want that.

Can't you just go to manage world and then choose the other family to play ?

I'm not sure but you might need to toggle on the splitting screen what family you want to play
