sims 3 update 1.42

Everytime I agree to install the update, it downloads, goes through its self-talk of verifying, and then comes up with a screen saying some things have been modified and I have to re-install.  What gives???

Do you by any chance have some mods for Sims 3 installed? If yes, please de-install / de-activate these mods and try again.

If you are running a mac, and if you are patching from 1.38, and if you scroll through the log file and the error line appears on the version.txt file then:
go to the sims application -- right click, show package contents
contents > frameworks > version.txt ------ double click and open in text edit
there should be six digit number
save a copy of that number someplace
change the six digit number to 008258
save
then try to reinstall the update
