"Input Not Supported"

[ Edited ]
★★★ Newbie

When I start up the Sims 4, my screen goes blank and this dancing grey box shows up that reads "Input not Supported"

I saw a thread like this after a quick google search but after checking all of my drivers I'm still unlucky and the Grey Box continues it's dance.

The last thread I saw asked for the DxDiag, so here it is in the hopes that it's helpful:

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. If we can get this to work I'd be willing to name my first Sim after you!

Hello,

I don't know the exact pathway to find this file, but in your Documents folder, there should be an Electronic Arts folder, then in The Sims 4 folder there should be a file named Options.ini

Open that file using something like Notepad, and then use Edit > Find to locate the part that says "fullscreen = 1", and change it to "fullscreen = 0". After this, save the file and see whether you can open The Sims 4.

If any of these steps you cannot do, or something doesn't work let me know. If this does work, I can then tell you what to do next.

I hope this helps and keep simming,

Cody

Looks as though it works! The window was placed a bit weirdly, but it appears that Windowed Fullscreen works like a charm. Thanks very much!

Hello,

You should now be able to go into the game's settings in-game and set the resolution to the native resolution of your monitor (1440 x 900). You could probably make the game properly fullscreen again in these settings once you've chosen the right resolution.

I have experienced this issue in the past with monitors of this resolution, as games do not default to it correctly.

I'm glad it has worked! If you think I've been especially helpful, feel free to send some XP my way.

I hope this helps and keep simming,

Cody

Re: "Input Not Supported"

★★ Novice

Hello,

I have just updated my graphics drivers and I encountered the same problem, 'Input Not Supported' error message.  There is another way to get The Sims 4 to load, without having to edit any files, but at a lower resolution. While the game is loading, keep pressing left 'Alt'+Return, until the error message disappears and the screen goes completely black. Don't worry, about a minute or so later, the game will load normally, but at a reduced resolution. Once it loads, just go to your 'Gameplay' options and set the graphics settings there to what you normally have them. Mine is usually 'Display Type Fullscreen', Resolution 1600x1200, Refresh Rate 60 Hz. Apply changes and exit the screen. The next time you load The Sims 4, it should load normally. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Alt + Return worked. My settings in the options were already set to 0

When I updated my computer to Windows 10, it suddenly wanted to run the game on ultimate graphics.
