I asked this question already on The Sims 3 forum, but I didn't get any replies, so I decided to come here. Anyways, I keep getting the error "Unable to connect to the EA Download Manager" and it has been driving me crazy for the past few days because I cannot figure out why it's doing that. The Sims 3 base game is already updated to the latest version (I don't have any expansions). I had to get it manually updated because of EADM. Even after updating it, I still kept getting the error. So then I manually uninstalled and reinstalled Origin, and still no difference. Then I reinstalled the base game and no change.
I am aware that there are other forums out there that have dealt with this issue, but their solutions don't work for me. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Did you try the tips here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Unable-to-connect-with-origin/td-p/186744/ ?
----
What is your base game version right now ?
To find out, open your launcher and hover over the little base game icon in the lower left part of the launcher. It should say 1.42.
