mods won't work

I recently got my first external hard drive to put all my games onto. I put the sims 4 onto it and now my mods won't show up. I checked the folder and saw that they were gone so I took the copy of the mods and put it into the mods folder and it still didn't work, I uninstalled and reinstalled the sims and I turned on script mods and custom content, help me please!!!

Where did you place the mods? In documents or on your external drive?
