laptop help please?

★ Novice

hiya!! i'm currently searching for a new laptop mostly to play the sims 4 on however i know very little about laptops and so if anybody could help me it would be so so so appreciated!!

my absolute budget is £1000 and i don't need for it to run all of the packs, maybe half or so at the most, however i do love custom content so there would need to be enough storage for that.

my old laptop, i don't remember the exact name, but i know it was a touch-screen lenovo and this worked brilliantly with the sims 4. my current laptop is a hp and it's awful... it barely has any storage at all, it shuts down if i have any more than two tabs open, it can't download any games at all because of the lack of storage, it over-heats... this is why i'm pushing my budget as far as it can possibly go. i know i don't need a thousand for a good laptop, but i like having the option of it if it's needed.

once again any help or advice at all would be very much appreciated!!! <3

Re: laptop help please?

@witchybite  The main question is whether you're comfortable with a gaming laptop or not.  Gaming laptops that would run all current Sims 4 packs together on ultra graphics settings start around £650, although those tend to have small hard drives, more than enough for Sims 4 and plenty of custom content, but perhaps little enough to make you nervous, especially if you also install other games.  The thin and light laptops tend to be a bit more expensive, or else the same price for weaker hardware, the kind that should run Sims 4 on medium-high or high settings but not ultra.

As an example of gaming laptops with a lot of storage, enough for several Sims 4-sized games and then some, these two are £700.  They have the same graphics card, memory, and storage; the processor in the second one is a bit better for gaming, but that shouldn't matter to Sims 4.

If those two aren't available where you live, this is the same laptop as the first one above, for £750:

This is another laptop with equivalent hardware that doesn't look so much like a gaming laptop:

Lenovos are a bit pricier for the same hardware, for example this one is £850, although its graphics card is a bit faster than the one in the models above:

On the other hand, you could get a much faster graphics card for £850, one that should always be able to run Sims 4, all packs included, on ultra settings, with some room to spare.

As far as the non-gaming laptop equivalents go, this is the cheapest one I saw with a gaming graphics card.  Its card is a few percentage points slower than the ones above, but still fast enough for ultra settings now.  It's £900:

I didn't look closely at laptops with weaker hardware, since you can afford something better.  But if you want to see other options and don't mind lowering the game's settings, let me know what you're looking for, and I'll do another search.  And of course if you have more questions, please feel free to ask.
