gift boxes in inventory and can't log on when starting game

when i'm playing and my sim goes to the mail box and i get mail i wind up with all these boxes that say there omni plants but i can't do anything with them how do i get rid of them? also when i'm at the last step before playing where it asks you to log in or contuning with out logging in it won't let me log in says my game needs to update but i looked and it already is what do i do?
