Will stopping update erase all data?

So I hadn't played Sims 4 since around the beginning of July, and when I went to play it I saw an update (which I now know was the July 14th update) was paused at 2%. I tried to get it to resume updating but it would crash the program every time I tried. I removed mods and cc and tried again, but it did the same thing. I tried stopping the update, but it said I would loose all progress if I did. Does this mean I would  loose all progress of the update loading or all progress of the game?  My computer is a pc with Windows 10. Sorry if this question had already been asked or answered, I looked and didn't see it.

But I think it means update progress.
