Why can't I download my Sims expansion pack on Origin?

i just got Generations Sims 3 for my birthday and i've been trying all day to install it in my Sims. But this box keeps popping up saying " Setup cannot continue because programs associated with the Sims 3 are currently running. Please stop these applications before attempting to run The Sims 3 Generations setup."

But i closed Sims 3 before i installed the pack. idk whats wrong. i tried to redeem the product code but i can't find it. idk if i'm typing the right numbers.
