Re: Whats the best laptop for sims4 and work?

@SNAZZYSIMS20  For £1,400, you have a few good options even with your other preferences.  If you want a great laptop for Sims 4, a gaming laptop is the better way to go; non-gaming laptops don't have the graphics, or the cooling for that matter, to compete.  The first choice to make is what kind of graphics card you want.  An Nvidia 1650 would run Sims 4, all packs included, on ultra settings right now.  That may or may not be true by the time the game is out of development—we don't know how demanding future packs will be, but it should be a close call either way.  An Nvidia 1660 ti is overkill for Sims 4, and a 2060 even more so.

Most gaming laptops don't have good battery life, for various reasons: it's almost impossible to build a laptop-sized battery that would support gaming, so why bother; the high-end hardware draws more power even when barely above idling; the bright screen needs more power too; the chassis needs room for a suitable cooling system.  But some laptops have better batteries than others.

The other catch is that similar-looking models don't necessarily have equivalent batteries.  For example, the Asus ROG Strix has a 48Wh battery, whereas the Zephyrus has a 76Wh battery.  But that's not enough either: some laptops with good batteries seem to use more power than they should in basic tasks, and it's not clear why.  The Dell G5 15 and G7 17 laptops have a 60Wh battery, which is fantastic for medium hardware (i5 9300H CPU, 1650) but doesn't go as far on higher-end components (9750H, 2060).

Still, Dell does a great job of optimizing battery life through other controls, including a somewhat dimmer screen than other gaming laptops.  If you want an Nvidia 1650, the G5 15 would be a good choice; these two (£950 and £970) are equivalent except for their storage.  (512 GB is enough for most people, but maybe you have large projects in mind.)  This model is rated highly on connectivity too.

Dell also offers the same model with an Nvidia 2060 (£1,400) and the next higher model up with a 1660 ti (£1,190), both with a much stronger processor and 16 GB RAM.

Another excellent option with a 1650 is the Acer Nitro 5, at £150 cheaper; this one has a 1 TB SSD.  Connectivity isn't great though.

The Zephyrus line also comes in a variety of options.  This one (£1,000) is last year's model, with a 1660 ti and a processor that's a bit better than the one in the first two Dell models but weaker than the one in the other two.  It wouldn't make any difference to Sims 4, but if your Adobe work is particularly demanding, you might like the extra power.  This is not a question of whether the processor could handle the load, just how long it would take.

This one is available for pre-order and has a 1650 and a stronger processor than any of the ones above.  It's £1,000, and it's also slightly smaller than the others, both in terms of weight and screen size.

This is the same one, except with a very slightly faster graphics card; see if Asus's student discount makes it cheaper than the above.

This one has an even stronger processor than the one above, plus 16 GB RAM and a 1 TB solid state drive.  It's £1,300 from Overclockers:

or £1,400 before any discount from the Asus store.

Finally, this Acer Predator Triton has an Nvidia 2060 and the same processor as the first two Dell models.  It's only £1,100 because it has 8 GB RAM and a single 256 GB SSD.  Acer expects people who buy these models will want to add the hard drive and extra memory of their choice.

Both the Acer Predator and the Asus models would take just about any 2.5" hard drive (mechanical or solid state drive) if you wanted more storage.  The Acer (both the Nitro and Predator) and Asus models that have 8 GB memory come with a single 8 GB stick already installed, so you could add a matching one yourself.  (This might cost you £40 rather than £150-200 to get the next higher laptop.)  The first two Dell models have 2x4 GB sticks, so you'd need to buy the full 16 GB if you wanted to upgrade.

if you have more questions, please feel free to ask.
