Video driver issues on an OS rebuild Dell Optiplex 755

I rebuilt my Dell Optiplex 755 about a year ago. I loaded Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on to the machine and have been using generic Windows 7 video drivers.

Dell doesn't officially support Windows 7 on this platform (only Vista). I believe the video card to be an Intel Q35, but am not 100% sure.

I've loaded the Q35 drivers directly from Intel's site and everything video wise seems to be OK, but Sims 4 won't run.

"Can't run The Sims 4 with the video card...blah blah. [0e6d1221:1df4e8dc:00000000]"

My thoughts:

1) I still don't have the right video drivers. Maybe it's NOT an Intel Q35?? It's on-board. How can you determine which one it is?

2) The Sims 4 simply won't run with an Intel Q35. (I doubt that)

Hello,

I believe your graphics chipset is in fact an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100. However, despite this, neither the Intel Q35 or the Intel GMA 3100 are supported in The Sims 4, therefore you cannot play the game using these chipsets.

Thanks for the reply. That's a bit surprising to me. I didn't think the machine was THAT old.

I just dusted off an ATI Radeon Hd 2400 XT from a different machine. I believe this card meets the minimum requirements, but I can't seem to find the minimum.

This card has 256 MB of video memory.

According to this nifty link: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/GEsFJ you should be able to run The Sims 4 with the Radeon HD 2400 on the lowest settings. As long as nothing else is conflicting with the Sims 4 program, you should be good to go.
