Very slow game play

★★ Novice

Really not happy with my purchase. I purchased the game about a week ago and for the first day or so everything was working fine, but now it isn't. The game is running VERY slowly, I can get into the game fine but however whenever I tell my sim to do something it takes just about forever for them to do so, or it takes so long that I have to cancel what I've told them to do, which is resorting in my sims dying and my children being taking away from me for neglect.

The games freezing continuously and it's almost unplayable. My inventory keeps vanishing also, I've had to re-write the book of life five times now, it keeps vanishing into thin air whenever I next play the game, and yes I am clicking save game before I finish playing so it isn't due to that.

As I've just explained, it's becoming unplayable as all of my sims are almost dead because when I give them an action to do, most of the time it freezes or just cancels the command completely. So with this it's making the game pointless in playing as I'm unable to play it properly because it's running very slowly. I hope there's a fix for this because this isn't what I wanted to buy. I've had sims games in the past and I've really enjoyed playing them but this time not so much.

I'm sorry to hear you're unhappy with your purchase. You might be able to get a refund by contact EA's Customer Service. To learn more about refunds, please see the article linked below:

How to get a refund for EA games with Origin - https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/account/returns-and-cancellations/

It looks like the inventory disappearing is a known bug:

[OPEN] Items collected in personal inventory are disappearing - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Items-collected-in-personal-inventory-are-disappearing/td...

Here are some troubleshooting tips to help hopefully get the game to working better:

1. Repair Game:
In Origin > Games Library, right-click on Sims 4 and select Repair.  It does not make any changes to the saved game files. Meaning that your saved games are safe, they won't be deleted. If you'd like you can copy the Sims 4 folder to a USB key.

2. Turn off Origin In-Game:
Open Origin, Select Origin > Application Settings > Origin In Game tab and click the on/off switch to disable Origin In Game. - This deactivates Origin In-Game, as it has been known to cause problems with games.

3. Start the game in Windowed mode:
In Origin > Games Library, right-click on Sims 4, select Game Properties > Advanced Launch Options - In the Command Line Arguments, add the following text: -w and click Okay.

How to Play Sims 4 In Windowed Mode
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/playing-the-sims-4-in-windowed-mode/

4. If playing with mods and custom content, move your mods folder to the desktop, delete the game cache and the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder to help with troubleshooting.

How to Delete Cache Files
https://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/delete-cache-files/

Launch the game again and try a new save to test. If it loads okay, it may be that some of the mods/cc have become outdated.

Testing like this will help determine if it's a mod issue, cc issue or a vanilla game issue. Disabling or turning off both mod/cc options isn't enough of a test.

To fix mods and custom content try the 50/50 method:

1. Move all the mods and cc out into a temporary folder on the desktop.
2. Move a few files back at a time. Load the game to make sure it loads and everything is good.
3. Delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder.
4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 till there is no more files to check.

** While your testing, don't save the game. If you find any problems, delete the mod or custom content file.

How To Find Problem Mods and CC - http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS4_Finding_Problem_Custom_Content

Custom content can become outdated with most new game patches. If the game works when the Mods folder is removed, then one or more of the mods and/or custom content has become outdated and will need to be removed or replaced. EA/Maxis aren't responsible for broken mods/cc. It's up to the creators to fix.
