Ts3 duplicate running files?

★★ Novice

I have no clue what I did, i reinstalled my sims 3 game and it was through origin this time and it gave me a separate The Sims 3 file and a new Electronic Arts folder with another The Sims 3 file. I'm trying to put my mods in the game but half the programs from each file are running the game and it will not register my cc. I ended up putting the Electronic Arts file inside the origin The Sims 3 file to see if it will all become one and change anything but it doesn't.

@shamalish  The mods and custom content need to be inside a folder called Packages (with a capital P) inside the Mods folder.  The game can't read the files otherwise.  You can have subfolders inside Packages if you want.

Re: Ts3 duplicate running files?

@shamalish  There should be two separate Sims 3 folders (not files): one that contains the game's program files, and one that contains the user data.  The program files are what the EA App installs; the user data is saves, saved households and builds, mods and custom content, really anything you create or add to the game on your own.

These folders should always be kept separate.  The user folder is located in Documents > Electronic Arts, whereas the program files are wherever the EA App installed them, in C:\Program Files\EA Games by default.

thank you for the response! I went ahead put the folders in different locations, but only bits of my custom content are showing up in the game, is there any way to fix that so all of it shows up? i have my resource file in the Mods folder and the package cc in their designated places.

Re: Ts3 duplicate running files?

@shamalish  Just in case it's relevant, you do need to delete the cache files when adding new content to the user folder.  These are in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and should be deleted regularly anyway:

  • CASPartCache.package
  • compositorCache.package
  • scriptCache.package
  • simCompositorCache.package
  • socialCache.package

Otherwise, please post screenshots of the locations of the files that aren't loading, as in, I'd like to see the file names and sizes.  Include the address bar, above the list of files and folders, in the screenshots.

Here is the location of my Mods folder, and other folders of custom content inside the mods folder and there's a 3rd photo of what cc is there just in case.
