The sims 3 crashing on new laptop with windows 10

I have a brand new acer aspire i3 8GB laptop and i just reinstalled the Sims 3 after like 3 years and it get to where i am creating a person and crashes it says the sims 3 has stopped working windows will notify me when they find the problem. should i trade my laptop in because i initially bought it to play the sims an do school work. I have tried the DEP method and changing the compatibility so far.

@hillabryn  Are you installing from disc or using digital download from Origin. Also please post your computer's dxdiag - link - how to post your computer's dxdiag  thank you
