The Sims 4 will not launch via the desktop shortcut or origin

I bought the game from a local retailer on the 5th, and installed it straight away. Everything was fine and the game was running smoothly and so i played for a few hours. The next day when I went to play the game would not launch after clicking the shortcut, so i opened origin to try and open the game from there however the game was completely grayed out and the 'play' button wasn't working. Any help will be appreciated
