Stuck on "Are you new to The Sims4?" screen [ Edited ]

Just what the topic says:  I open The Sims 4, hear the music, and get the screen asking "Are you new to The Sims4?"  I am, so I click "Yes" and there we sit.  And sit.  And sit.

On a PC, FWIW.

@Edistonia  Please try repairing the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.

If that doesn't help, please test in a clean user folder.  Move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can get far enough to start a save and play in live mode for a bit.  Let me know either way.

If you have the same issue in a clean folder, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
