Sims Not Loading

I go to load a house (a few different ones) and they are all gone - no way to bring them home unless there is one of them home to invite them. The button is missing to bring them home/switch control. Going crazy here, please help!

Go to the city map on the right top you have Family Management panel. Move your family on an empty lot and check if you can manage them. Then move them back to their home by phone option.
If it will not work try doing a factory reset as described in this post:
