Sims 4 gameplay

So I am having an issue with a Sims 4 romance choice. The thing is that the character I created was engaged to a sim, but since said sim died, my created character does not have the option of proposing to another sim. Another thing is, I already sent said dead sim to the afterlife. Any way I can break off the engagement to the deceased sim?
