Sims 3 won't download

Hi I just perchased the sims 3, I am having problems downloading it. It seems to get so far ( each time a different stage) then states there has been a problem ( this gives me three options : abort, retry and egnor) I have windows 8 and my laptop is a toshiba satellite pro 650-a-1e2 please can you help.
