Sims 3 crashing randomly

★★★ Novice

So I recently started playing Sims 3, never had any crashing issues, but the more I started to play the more it would crash, it would crash randomly in a timespan of 1 hour to 1 hour n 30 mins. Now it crashes in a timespan of 10 to 20 mins. I've tried clearing the cache and my CC but it still crashes.

Here's the crash report: https://pastebin.com/qFUzQheY

And here's my DXDiag report: https://pastebin.com/FHNUe1bZ

I'm on Windows 10 btw.

Re: Sims 3 crashing randomly

@TheRetardedKidMF  Your dxdiag has a few errors related to OneDrive, so please try disabling that and see whether it helps.  You can always turn it on again when you need it.

More concerning though are the BlueScreens related to memory management.  Whether it helps Sims 3 directly or not, you should absolutely test your laptop's memory.  Windows has a built-in function; you can read about it here, in step one:

A better tool is MemTest86, but you'd need to create a bootable medium (DVD or USB stick) for the test.  (The newest version only supports USB, but you could download an older version instead if you needed to use a DVD instead.)  The newest version—the free one works fine—can be downloaded here:

These are good instructions for using MemTest86:

@puzzlezaddict I ran a memory test and it said no problems were found, I'm gonna disable OneDrive, I never use it anyways, prolly just eats up my memory or cpu. Will update if it crashes again, should I post my crash report and run another dxdiag report if it does?

Re: Sims 3 crashing randomly

@TheRetardedKidMF  If you keep getting crashes, please do run another dxdiag so I can see if the errors are the same as before.  But the crash reports aren't particularly useful.  Aside from showing how much memory TS3 is using at the time, they really don't contain any helpful information.

By the way, you can attach a dxdiag, or any .txt file, directly to a post if you want, so you don't have to use Pastebin.

@puzzlezaddict, sorry for taking so long, haven't opened sims 3 in a bit, but this time it just seems completely random now. As I said, the timespan in which the game would crash decreased the more I played, but now it's back to being completely random as it crashed in an hour this time. But here's my second DxDiag report, hope this helps.

@TheRetardedKidMF  The one Sims 3 crash in your new dxdiag mentions a .dll that's part of DirectX 9, so you can try reinstalling it.  At the very least, it shouldn't do any harm.

You also have a few Steam errors, but I don't know if you're playing through Steam or not.  If you are, you don't need to have Steam open while you play.  Just launch the game directly from TS3W.exe (that's with a "W"), which will be in the game's program files.  The full path will look something like this:

Program Files (x86):\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\Game\Bin

If nothing else, you'll be subtracting one app from the load your laptop is under while you play.  That's important because the other obvious issue is your hardware—it's not really strong enough to run the most demanding Sims 3 packs.  The biggest issue is the integrated graphics card, which probably wouldn't be able to handle Pets, Seasons, Isla Paradiso, or Into the Future, at least not very well.  Even a bunch of medium packs might be a problem, depending on how well your laptop is made, its ability to cool itself, your playstyle, and some element of randomness.

If you want to confirm, at least as much as possible, that the graphics card being under excess strain is the problem, you can download a monitoring app like GPU-Z (be sure to get the one from TechPowerUP).  In the second category, you'll see a measure for GPU core load.  If the load is consistently above 95%, or if it spikes and then the game crashes, that's likely the problem.

Please also make sure that your laptop can cool itself effectively.  (GPU-Z will also give you a temperature reading, which should be below 80º C; you can download CPU-Z for the processor.)  The easiest way is to elevate it—put books under the corners or something.  A fan might help as well.

If the issue isn't GPU load or temperature, let me know, and we can go from there.

P.S.  Waiting a few days to reply is never a problem.  Whenever you're ready to troubleshoot, I'll be here.

Well I do have all EP's and SP's so maybe that could be the issue.
