Sims 3 Product Key Predicament

I used to play Sims 3 a lot on my old laptop, but since then, I've bought a new laptop that doesn't have a disc drive; so I can't manually play the Sims 3. I tried using my product key that came in the game box to redeem it digitally, but Origin keeps saying that my product key is already used? Is there any way I can re-download the Sims 3 without having to buy another copy of the game?

Origin is not able to do anything with a new, empty player account.  You must use the correct account that the game(s) was / were registered to, and then you will not see the error message that must always be the answer from any brand new account.
