Sims 3 EXTREME lag (impossible to play)

★ Novice

Okay so like when I first got Sims 3 it would run, it would lag a little but it didn't really bother me. I decided to play it today and it was literally IMPOSSIBLE. The loading screen took only 1 minute but after that I couldn't even move my mouse and it constantly kept freezing every second. I couldn't even change the volume or brightness, I had to exit the game every time I wanted to do so. Sometimes it would lag so much that it would just crash. It might be because of my laptop since it's meant for work and school purposes. But why would it happen all of a sudden?

@SHabsar  Yes, your computer is less than ideal for Sims 3, but if it ran okay before, something definitely changed all of a sudden.  The question is what.

As a test, please pull your entire TS3 game folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Let me know how it runs with this new folder in place—don't add any content back, just start a new save and play for a few minutes.

If it works well again, you can start moving your content from your old game folder to your new one in batches, testing each time to make sure everything still runs well.  Test your mods and cc first, if you have them, and leave your saves for last.  Here's a list of everything in your TS3 game folder, with descriptions of what you'd want to keep:

If TS3 still runs badly or not at all with the clean folder in place, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post here.  It will cover a lot of information at once.
