Ever since the latest round of updates, I keep losing my saved games. I can't open them, nor the recovered files. I have no mods. This is incredibly frustrating, as I am losing all of my work. It is making the game unplayable.

I understand that when you click "Load the game" nothing happens. Do you get any message?
Do you only have "New Game" options and nothing more?
Have you tried to fix the game in Origin?
Origin/Library - right click on TS4 - option "Repair game"
You have to wait until Origin will fix all packs, not only the base game.
I don't work for EA

When I load my game, it lets me click on the household and it starts to open, then freezes. I have to close out of the game through Task Manager. I've tried opening recovered files and the same thing happens.
I've tried the Origin repair, clearing out the files in my EA folder - I've followed all the instructions I could find online and nothing works. This has been happening over the last month or two, but it's not the first time. This seems to happen about once a year. It all just breaks.

I understand that you checked that the reason is not your mods or CC and you do not use it. (If someone uses it, he has to eject mods folder to the desktop - just switching off this option in the game is not enough)
Have you tried to do a factory reset as described in this post?

Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?
To gather a DxDiag on your computer, please follow the steps here: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

I started playing the game again and the same thing is happening. I started an entirely new character, built everything up, and now my game won't load. Is there a limit to what you can do with a single Sim? It seems like if you advance too far in the game with one character, it breaks.
I have attached my DxDiag. There is no way my computer isn't capable of running this game, and I keep everything up to date.

There is no limit there. What you write the most often happens if you have outdated mods and CC, which became incompatible with the game and the game can not be turned on. But since you did the factory reset of the game folder, you checked all your mods and CC one by one there must be a different reason.
But to be 100% sure that this is not the reason
Check if there are new updated versions of the mods and CC you are using.
Move the mods folder to the desktop.Delete localthumbcache.package file in the game folder
Fix the game in Origin.
Origin/Library -right click on TS4 - option "Repair game"
You have to wait until Origin will fix all packs, not only the base game.
Turn on the game to create a new, empty mods folder. Check if a game is working now without mods.
Then copy from desktop your mods and CC and paste it in the new mods folder. First, paste script mods every time checking if the game is OK. Do the same with CC but if you have a lot of this, try the 50/50 method
In your dxdiag, I can see two problems. You have a little more than 20 GB of free space left. Theoretically, this should be enough, but Windows produces a lot of temporary files and if you do not regularly clean the disk off these files it may be a problem. I would uninstall some program that I do not need or would reduce the amount of stored data.
The second most serious problem is the unsuccessful Windows updates which suggest the errors in the system.
Check with this Windows tool to see if you need to fix it.

Next, check if your Windows is up to date

I was amazed myself how you could fill almost 400 GB of disk space but dxdiag shows that it was possible.
It is copied from your dxdiag
Drive: C:
Free Space: 26.1 GB
Total Space: 487.2 GB
But let's skip it. I do not see any reason for these failures. But the reason can be very simple. For example, the computer uses Intel's graphics card instead of Nvidia. To check it, read the Config text document in the game folder. There you will find information about the card the game uses.
Another reason may be that the computer is dirty and the ventilation system is not working properly. During the game, the graphics card overheats and the graphics card stops working
However, the simplest explanation is that there is some problem with the game files.
You can reinstall the game. Reinstalling the game applies only to game files in the Program Files folder and does not affect your current saves or library - Tray folder- in Documents. But to be on the safe side, move the whole folder of the game to the desktop. Then you will copy the only Tray, "saves" folders and TrayDeleteItems file from it. Let the game create all configurations.
