Product code for sim3

I just purchased The Sims 3 starter pack from a friend and I need a new product code since they have used the old one. What do I do?

if the game was bought 2nd hand/used the code/s will be tied to the original persons account and are non transferable nor can they be reregistered to another account seek  a refund from your friend
