Problems unpausing the game

No matter which loaded game I choose to play I cannot get it to unpause when I click the play button.  In live mode, I cannot change characters or anything but I can still move the screen, the sims are still frozen tho. I can switch to build mode and add to a household but none of it actually saves and once I go back to live mode it all disappears but the similones spent do not come back. 

I've tried turning off my computer and logging out of origin and neither seems to be working. Can anyone make a recommendation as to what I should do?

Are you using any mods or cc in your game? Try to remove them and see if the game works better.
For example, move the mods folder from C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to your Desktop and start the game.
