Playing used Sims 3 games?

I recently lost my Sims 3 game and I have a friend who is gonna sell me their game... Will I be able to play? Considering there is a registration code problem? I'll get 2 more expansion packs from them too? Will buying these screw me over? I don't really mind about them linking to my online Sims community account... I just like to play them. Thank you!
