Origin has hi-jacked my Sims 3 games

What is the deal?  Why has Origin made it impossible to play my sims 3 unless I log on to Origin first?  I can no longer play the game from the disc which is how I prefer to play.  Instead, I am forced to play through Origin.  I live in a rural area where internet speeds are slow, so I prefer to play offline.  Now I have to play while connected to Origin.  I don't like this, especially in lieu of all the money I've spent purchasing these games.  Anyone else experiencing this?

In addition to the above, some of the game content is missing since Origin made this move.  And the game does not load properly.
