Origin Crashes when Updating Sims4

When I run Sims4 on Windows 10, Origin launches, but a message pops up saying:

Update Required, A required update for The Sims4 Digital Deluxe is available. Would you like to download the update now - The game will not be playable until the update is applied.

The two options given are Update and Cancel. Whichever I click though causes Origin to crash and the game cannot be played. How do I get around this?

Origin does not crash but closes. Instead of starting the game from a shortcut start Origin and do the upgrade. Later you can start from the shortcut again if you prefer.
